In this test, the EV owner connected the charging cable to the EV and set the charging end time. When the system detects that the power demand is large and it is judged that the charging needs to be suspended for the EV, if the suspension of the charging at this time would cause the charging to be completed before the predetermined end time, the charging will continue without being suspended. In addition, the owner can also be set to ignore the pause charge request.

The American Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and large power companies have collaborated with automakers to develop a two-way communication platform for vehicles and the power grid. Among car manufacturers, besides Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Group, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi Motors, BMW, and Daimler also participated in the development. Sumitomo Electric is responsible for the IT development part of the platform.
