Countryside firefighters responded to a fire at 285 E. Court of Shorewood in Vernon Hills on Tuesday evening. The incident began in the third-floor laundry room, prompting an immediate call for assistance. Chief 4100 from Countryside Fire Department was the first to arrive and reported visible smoke coming from the top floor of the six-unit apartment building. As the situation escalated, the alarm was upgraded to a working fire, followed by a MABAS Box Alarm to bring in additional units for support. Mundelein Engine 432 quickly arrived on scene and positioned its lines in front of the building. Firefighters worked swiftly to contain the blaze, but the damage was extensive. The building was ultimately deemed uninhabitable due to the severity of the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the residents were displaced and are now seeking temporary housing. Photographs from the scene captured the intensity of the fire, including smoke billowing from the balcony and the arrival of emergency crews.
