As seen around … Rockford

This message is from Mike Maida:

I recently visited one of the Rockford Fire Stations and snapped a few photos of their 2013 Pierce engine. This particular unit is Engine 4, a 2013 Pierce Saber PUC rescue engine. It's equipped with Advanced Life Support (ALS) capabilities and features an access door on the officer’s side for the EMS compartment. Engine 4 is one of three designated "Extrication" engines in Rockford, alongside Engines 8 and 11. I caught this one heading out on an EMS call. The third photo shows Rockford Quint 5, a 2012 Pierce Velocity 105-foot quint.

Sincerely,

Mike Maida

It was a great opportunity to capture some of the city's emergency vehicles up close. These images give a glimpse into the daily operations of the Rockford Fire Department. The PUC (Public Utility Crew) engines are essential for rapid response and specialized calls, especially during extrication incidents. The quint, with its long ladder, is often used for high-rise fires or rescues. Seeing these units in action always reminds me of the importance of well-equipped and well-trained firefighters. I hope these photos provide a bit of insight into the work they do every day. If you have any questions about the equipment or the department, feel free to reach out!
