According to a recent report from the German Machinery Manufacturers' Association (VDMA), the output value of core machinery in Germany's rubber and plastics industry dropped by 7.5% in 2005 compared to the previous year, reaching 4.615 billion euros. This decline reflects a challenging year for the sector, with various segments showing mixed performance. The data also reveals that the output value of extrusion machinery increased by 1.7% year-on-year to 785 million euros, while injection molding machinery saw a slight decrease of 3%, totaling 855 million euros. On the trade front, the import value of rubber and plastics machinery fell by 1.4% to 628 million euros, while exports declined more significantly by 10.4% to 3.334 billion euros. Despite the overall drop in exports, some areas showed positive growth. Extrusion machinery exports rose by 3.7% to 479 million euros, while injection molding machinery exports decreased by 2.7% to 689 million euros. These figures highlight the uneven performance across different machinery types within the industry. Looking ahead, VDMA is optimistic about the future. The association predicts that the output value of core machinery in the German rubber and plastics sector will grow by 4% in 2006, with the value of orders received expected to increase by 7%. This suggests a potential recovery and renewed confidence in the market.
