A high-end CNC system featuring spline and small line segment interpolation capabilities for 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers has been successfully developed at Beijing Jiaotong University. Recently unveiled at the 2006 China International Machine Tool Show, this system marks a significant breakthrough in domestic CNC technology. According to Professor Wang Xiaoyu from the School of Mechanical and Electronic Control Engineering at Beijing Jiaotong University, the new CNC system offers comprehensive functionality, superior processing quality, and high efficiency. It is entirely independently developed with full intellectual property rights, reaching international advanced standards. The system not only supports multi-axis linkage and long-term stable operation in industrial environments but also incorporates an innovative intelligent scheduling interpolation algorithm that combines spline curves with multi-axis coordination. This advancement significantly improves constant feed rate control and acceleration management, leading to better surface finish and processing efficiency. Since the 1990s, China's demand for CNC equipment has grown rapidly. By 2003, it had become the world’s largest consumer of such systems. Industry forecasts suggest that by 2010, China’s demand for CNC systems would exceed 100,000 units. However, high-end CNC systems—especially 5-axis ones—have long been imported. The Eleventh Five-Year Plan clearly emphasized the development of advanced CNC systems as a key national priority. The China International Machine Tool Show remains one of the most influential platforms for the global machine tool industry in Asia. The 2006 event was particularly notable, featuring nearly 1,000 companies from 25 countries and regions, making it the largest edition in the show’s history. The exhibition showcased cutting-edge technologies and equipment, highlighting the growing importance of China in the global manufacturing sector.
