World-Renowned Judges Announced for AEC Excellence Awards 2018

Autodesk, HP, Construction Dive, and Smart Cities Dive are excited to announce the distinguished panel of judges for the AEC Excellence Awards 2018. This global group of industry leaders and innovators will select the Innovator of the Year and evaluate all submissions in the categories of infrastructure design, building design, and construction based on rigorous criteria. Their goal is to recognize the visionaries and projects shaping the future of the built environment. The AEC Excellence Awards 2018 are now open for submissions, with a deadline of July 31, 2018. Following this, the judges will review all entries and announce the finalists in September. Winners will be revealed at Autodesk University Las Vegas 2018, taking place from November 13–15. Ada Fung, BBS, JP, serves as the Chairperson of the Committee on BIM at the Construction Industry Council and is a key figure in promoting BIM adoption in Hong Kong. She previously held leadership roles including Chairperson of the Architects Registration Board and President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. As Deputy Director of Housing, she introduced BIM into the Housing Department in 2006, significantly advancing its use in construction across multiple sectors. Aileen Cho, a senior editor at Engineering News-Record, has spent 22 years covering infrastructure and construction. Her work on airports, transit, and bridges has earned her numerous awards. In 2015, she traveled across the U.S. to document construction projects, and in 2016, she focused on aviation. Her insights have appeared in major publications like the Los Angeles Times and New York Times. Donna Laquidara-Carr, Industry Insights Research Director at Dodge Data & Analytics, leads the SmartMarket Report Series, covering topics such as green buildings, BIM, and construction safety. Her research is widely published, and she regularly speaks at major industry events, including Greenbuild and BOMA. Dr. Jack Cheng, an Associate Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, specializes in BIM, IoT, and smart cities. He holds several leadership roles, including Chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers Global Center of Excellence for Computing and member of the Hong Kong BIM Committee. Dr. Cheng was also recognized as Young BIMer of the Year in 2014. Dr. Jeong Woo, a professor at Milwaukee School of Engineering, focuses on BIM and energy efficiency in construction. He has presented his research at leading conferences and received multiple teaching and research awards. His work continues to shape how BIM is integrated into education and practice. Dr. Joaquín Díaz, a professor at Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen, leads the 5D Laboratories and advises government and industry bodies on technology and innovation. He is also a leader in German software associations and plays a vital role in promoting digital construction solutions. Keiichiro Taniguchi, an architect and sustainable designer, explores environmental simulations to enhance architectural sustainability. After joining Nikken Sekkei, he became a Project Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo, focusing on BIM integration for simulation-based design. Lachmi Khemlani, founder of AECbytes, has been analyzing AEC technology since 2003. With a Ph.D. in Architecture from UC Berkeley, she provides expert insights and consulting on BIM and digital tools, making her a trusted voice in the industry. Liang Jin, a BIM expert at Tsinghua University, has contributed extensively to BIM standards and research in China. His work includes developing strategies for IT in construction and creating frameworks for BIM implementation, supporting the growth of digital construction in the country. Liu Zhiming, Vice President of CWHIDA and President of the China Water Conservancy and Hydropower BIM Alliance, has led major infrastructure projects, including the Three Gorges Dam and the South-North Water Diversion Project. His contributions have earned him national recognition. Luke Faulkner, Director of Technology Integration at AISC, focuses on BIM and e-commerce for the structural steel industry. With experience in mechanical contracting, he has worked to advance technology adoption in construction. Mark Scacco, with over 25 years of experience, helps AEC professionals improve productivity through technology. He has written extensively on digital workflows and is a licensed engineer and FAA-certified pilot. Dr. Masatoyo Ogasawara, an architect and lecturer, emphasizes information sharing in international projects. His firm has completed projects globally, and his academic work explores design management in cross-cultural settings. Monica Schnitger, an industry analyst, has tracked AEC software markets for over 20 years. With a background in engineering and business, she provides strategic insights to technology buyers and developers. Russell Loveridge, Managing Director of NCCR Digital Fabrication, leads research on advanced construction technologies. His team works on smart materials and novel techniques, reshaping how we build. Ryota Ieiri, a journalist and civil engineer, has covered BIM and AEC for decades. He teaches entrepreneurship and enjoys flying, combining his technical and creative passions. Sheng Liming, President of China Railway BIM Alliance, has driven BIM development in railway engineering. Her work includes establishing standards and improving project management through digital tools. Xavier Fodor, editor-in-chief of SIGMAG and SIGTV.FR, has covered AEC technology since 1999. His focus on BIM and GIS highlights the evolving landscape of construction innovation. Dr. Zhang Liwei, Deputy Director of Shenzhen’s Bureau of Public Works, is a leading advocate for BIM in government projects. He developed the first BIM implementation outline for public works in China, setting new standards for digital construction. Zulfikar Adamu, an Associate Professor at LSBU, brings a unique perspective by combining architecture with IT. He integrates BIM and emerging technologies like VR and AR into education, preparing the next generation of construction professionals.
