This afternoon, emergency responders from Mundelein arrived at the scene of a devastating house explosion located at 918 Killarney Pass Drive. The address is just a short distance from Fire Station 1, making their response swift but tragically too late for one individual inside. When they arrived, the structure—a split-level home—was already engulfed in flames, presenting a challenging situation for firefighters.
According to reports from the Daily Herald, there has been one confirmed fatality as a result of the explosion. Lake County Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo stated that, besides the fatality, another person was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment. The incident occurred on the north side of Mundelein around noon on Friday, catching many residents by surprise.
