Autodesk and the Nemetschek Group Agree to Advance Open, Interoperable Workflows for Design and Make Industries
**San Francisco, April 24, 2024** – Today, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) made headlines with an exciting announcement regarding an interoperability pact signed with the Nemetschek Group. The agreement aims to foster seamless collaboration and efficiency within the architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AECO), as well as the media and entertainment (M&E) sectors. This partnership seeks to enhance the current interoperability between both companies' industry cloud offerings and desktop applications, ensuring smoother information exchange across their respective platforms.
In industries ranging from building construction to highway development or even content creation for media assets, utilizing cloud-connected tools drives automation and provides invaluable insights that can lead to smarter decision-making throughout any project lifecycle. However, all too frequently, inefficiencies arise when data remains fragmented due to software and file format limitations, leading to disjointed workflows.
“A key priority for Autodesk has always been developing open, interconnected cloud-driven solutions designed to break down barriers and bring together project teams through shared data,†stated Amy Bunszel, Executive Vice President of Architecture, Engineering & Construction Solutions at Autodesk. “By integrating Nemetschek’s tools into our ecosystem via this collaboration, we’re taking significant strides toward streamlining our clients’ operations while enhancing their ability to achieve superior project results.â€
This enhanced synergy between Autodesk and Nemetschek will facilitate easier data transfer between different cloud services and desktop programs, ensuring critical information reaches stakeholders at just the right moments. The interoperability hinges on Autodesk Platform Services (APS), a collection of open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and web-based tools, allowing Nemetschek’s dTwin, Bluebeam Cloud, BIMcloud, and BIMplus systems to interface with Autodesk’s industry clouds like Forma, Fusion, and Flow, along with various design tools. This connectivity empowers users to harness automation, artificial intelligence, and deep analytics to fine-tune their projects effectively.
This collaboration underscores a steadfast dedication to adopting open industry standards, such as openBIM by buildingSMART, which strengthens Building Information Modeling (BIM) practices by making digital data more accessible, usable, manageable, and sustainable within the construction sector. By dismantling silos and enabling teams to operate off a unified digital model, end-to-end processes become possible.
“Embracing openBIM, interoperability, and adherence to open industry norms lies at the core of everything we do at Nemetschek Group,†remarked Marc Nézet, Chief Strategy Officer of Nemetschek Group. “Partnering with Autodesk represents a monumental leap forward, granting customers the freedom to operate across diverse project settings and software ecosystems—a step closer to achieving a more sustainable built environment.â€
According to the terms of the agreement, both Autodesk and Nemetschek will grant reciprocal access to their APIs and industry clouds. This means developers will now have opportunities to integrate AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Maya, Autodesk Forma, and Autodesk Construction Cloud with Nemetschek solutions such as Allplan, ArchiCAD, Bluebeam, Maxon One, Vectorworks, and related cloud platforms. As a result, both firms will refine existing data exchange methods and pioneer innovative, data-focused workflows spanning multiple disciplines and sectors.
