4-Alarm fire in Fox River Grove, 9-29-13

This message is coming from Tyler Tobolt: --- Around 6:15 PM on September 29th, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received a call about a structure fire at 1 Algonquin Road in Barrington Hills. Algonquin Engine 143 quickly identified it as Fox River Grove's jurisdiction, so Fox River Grove FPD was dispatched right away. As companies arrived, they noticed a significant fire load, prompting Fox River Grove command to request a second alarm on Box Card #5-670. Algonquin Engine 143 even moved down the driveway to start a tanker operation, supplying water directly to Fox River Grove’s engine positioned in front of the building. On the second alarm, departments like Lakewood Engine 1041, Carpentersville Engine 941, Palatine Engine 81, Hoffman Estates Engine 23, Spring Grove Engine, Barrington Tender 362, Crystal Lake Tender 371, East Dundee Tender 471, Nunda-Rural Tender 1371, Huntley Tender 973, Wauconda Ambulance 341, Marengo Rescue Ambulance 1152, along with the Algonquin chief, a Barrington chief, a Crystal Lake chief, a Huntley chief, Lake Zurich as RIT, a Cary Safety Officer, EMA, and the Salvation Army all responded. COQ (Command Officer on the Scene) was Nunda-Rural ambulance, McHenry engine, and Nunda Rural chief. Just after the second alarm was called in, command escalated the situation further and requested a fourth alarm on Box Card 5-670. Departments that came on the fourth alarm included Fox Lake Engine 244, a Mundelein engine, a Grayslake engine, Elgin Engine 1, Schaumburg Engine 54, Rolling Meadows Engine 16, Woodstock Tender 73, Palatine Rural Tender 36, McHenry Tender 1274, Wonder Lake Tender 1671, Richmond Tender 1472, Hebron Tender 871, a Lake Zurich chief, a McHenry chief, a Wauconda chief, a Lakewood chief, and Air 5. The fire burned fiercely for approximately 2 to 3 hours. Here are some photos taken by Tyler Tobolt showing the intense situation: [Insert Photos] It was clear that this was a challenging fire to manage, requiring a massive coordinated effort from multiple departments to bring it under control. --- [Photos continue to show various angles of the fire and response efforts.]
