Garage fire in Crystal Lake 11-22-12

A fire broke out at a house in Crystal Lake on Thanksgiving Day due to a deep fryer. According to the Northwest Herald, Jon Ring had been heating up the deep fryer in preparation for the holiday meal when the incident occurred around noon. His wife, Kim Ring, who smelled the smoke and noticed the fire spreading quickly, recalled, "It was very windy that day. I rushed outside, smelled the smoke, and immediately knew something was wrong with the garage. I shouted to everyone inside to get out right away!" Jon Ring, known for deep-frying turkeys for over 15 years, mentioned that he was just following his usual routine. Unfortunately, the wind exacerbated the situation, causing the fire to spread rapidly. The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department reported an estimated loss of approximately $80,000 due to the combined effects of heat, smoke, and water used during firefighting efforts. The fire departments from McHenry Township and Woodstock also provided assistance in managing the blaze. For those interested in reading the full story, you can find the complete article here.
