Working fire in Hawthorn Woods, 11-8-14

From Larry Shapiro: Late Saturday evening (11-8-14), just after 11 PM, the Countryside Fire Protection District received a call about a fully involved house fire near the intersection of Midlotian and Kruckenberg Roads in Hawthorn Woods. When they confirmed the address, they realized the burning structure was actually in the Lake Zurich Fire Protection District. However, Countryside units were already on their way and quickly arrived at the scene. The house that was engulfed in flames was part of a cluster of buildings located at 12124 Kruckenberg Road. This property is currently being cleared to make way for a new residential development. Access to the site was initially delayed due to two Jersey barriers blocking the road. These had to be removed before emergency vehicles could proceed further. Firefighters worked diligently to establish an effective water supply system. They used over a thousand feet of 5-inch diameter hose to create an in-line operation. Units like the Long Grove Tanker 55, Countryside Tender 411, Lake Zurich Engine, and Countryside Engine 411 all played crucial roles in supplying water from one side of the incident. Additionally, a hydrant from a street behind the property was utilized for a master stream from Countryside Tower 412 and a hand line. I captured some images from the scene, showcasing the impressive efforts of the firefighters as they battled the intense blaze. You can see the massive diameter hoses laid out across the field, the Pierce fire engine standing ready under the cover of darkness, and the HME Rosenbauer Raptor aerial truck positioned strategically. There are also shots of firefighters pouring streams of water onto the charred remains of the house, as well as multiple fire engines illuminated against the night sky. Despite the challenges posed by the location and the scale of the fire, the crews managed to control the situation efficiently. For more photos, you can visit shapirophotography.net.
