Wauconda 3rd Alarm brush fire 5-1-13
Hey everyone,
This is Sam Borica, and I wanted to share some details about the big brush fire that went down recently in Grayslake. It happened on May 1st, 2013, near the intersection of Chardon Road and Imperial Court. The fire initially got upgraded to a second alarm around 2:35 PM, and then things escalated further when it hit third alarm status just an hour later at around 3:05 PM. The fire department managed to bring it under control by striking out the box at 4:05 PM.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the best angles for my photos because Lake County Sheriff had Chardon Road completely shut down. It made getting closer to the action pretty tough. Still, I managed to snap a few shots, including one of Grayslake Fire Station #3—though, to be honest, it’s not the clearest picture.
Take a look at the images below. These were all taken during the height of the fire. As you can see, the flames were massive, and there was a lot of smoke filling the air. It was quite a scene, and I’m lucky to have captured anything at all given the circumstances.
