Barrington 2nd & 4th Alarm fire 10-10-12 (update 2)
Larry Shapiro captured a series of powerful images from the large barn fire that occurred on October 10, 2012, in Barrington Hills. These photos provide a detailed visual account of the incident that unfolded along Ridge Road.
The first image shows the view from Ridge Road as Larry arrived at the scene, capturing the intensity of the blaze. Another photo highlights the portable water tanks positioned at the entrance to a private drive, which were used to support firefighting efforts. A third image features a Crystal Lake fire truck filling one of these tanks, showcasing the coordination between different fire departments.
One of the photos depicts Barrington Engine 361 drafting water from the portable tanks, while another captures over 1,000 feet of large diameter hose stretched from the road to the structure. Barrington Quint 363 is seen with multiple lines deployed, emphasizing the scale of the operation.
As the fire spread, a photo illustrates the full extent of the damage, with flames visible throughout the building. Another image reveals that the fire affected one of several structures on the property, and the rear of the involved building is also shown. Firefighters from the Carpentersville Fire District are seen working a line in the 'C' sector, while others tackle the smoldering remains at the east end of a garage.
The area of origin suffered a complete structural collapse, as captured in one of the images. Elgin Fire Department’s Truck 1 is also visible, having responded to the scene. Meanwhile, a Wauconda tanker stands by in the water supply sector, ready to assist if needed.
A final photo shows apparatus from multiple departments lined up along Ridge Road in both directions, highlighting the large-scale response to the fire.
