Major technological advancements in SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) technology at Liaohe Oilfield have achieved significant progress. Particularly, the development of ancillary technologies—such as the lifting system—has reached a successful stage. The serialization of related technology products has now moved into the implementation phase, with promising results. These innovations are expected to replace imported foreign alternatives, providing strong support for the large-scale application of SAGD technology. This marks a turning point for Liaohe Oilfield, as it will now rely on its own developed technology and equipment for SAGD operations.
It is reported that Liaohe Oilfield started testing SAGD technology in 2004 at the Du 84 block, achieving remarkable outcomes and continuous breakthroughs. However, key components of the supporting systems, such as oil pumps, polished rod sealers, and detachable lifting devices, were still imported from abroad. The high cost of imported pumps significantly increased the implementation expenses of SAGD technology, and once the technology matures, it could lead to long-term production challenges due to high maintenance costs.
To address these issues, Liaohe Oilfield assigned the task of independently developing SAGD pump lifting system technology and related products to the Drilling Technology Research Institute. Researchers conducted comprehensive studies, optimized parameters, selected suitable materials, and designed two types of pumps: a standard pump and a large-capacity pump. Using self-developed specialized manufacturing processes, they successfully created two new pump models.
Preliminary field tests on SAGD wells showed excellent performance. Currently, the technology has been tested in nine horizontal wells, with four of them operating continuously for over four months. The pumps demonstrated performance comparable to foreign-made counterparts, with similar machining accuracy. These results indicate that the technology is not only viable but also competitive on a global scale.
Once fully developed and widely applied, this technology is expected to significantly reduce production costs for Liaohe Oilfield. It represents a major step forward in the localization of critical SAGD components, enhancing both economic efficiency and technical independence. With continued refinement and expansion, the future of SAGD operations in Liaohe looks increasingly promising.
Heat Exchanger
A heat exchanger is a device used to transfer heat, usually to transfer heat from one fluid to another without them mixing. A heat exchanger usually consists of a number of parallel pipes in which one fluid flows through the pipe and another fluid flows through the outside of the pipe. In this way, heat can be transferred from one fluid to another for heating or cooling purposes. Heat exchangers are widely used in many industries, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing, air conditioning and heating systems, etc.
Heat exchanger usually consists of the following components:
1. Heat exchange pipe: Pipe used to transfer heat, usually made of metal materials, such as copper, stainless steel, etc.
2. Heat exchange surface: A surface used to transfer heat, usually consisting of metal sheets or pipes. The greater the surface area, the higher the heat transfer efficiency.
3. Housing: Housing, usually made of metal or plastic, used to secure heat exchange pipes and surfaces.
4. Seals: Seals used to prevent media leakage, usually made of rubber or silicone rubber.
5. Support: A support used to support a heat exchanger, usually made of steel or cast iron.
6. Import and export pipes: pipes used for medium entry and exit, usually made of metal or plastic.
7. Cleaning hole: A hole used to clean the inside of the heat exchanger, usually located on the upper or side of the heat exchanger.
8. Insulation layer: Insulation layer used to keep the temperature of the heat exchanger stable, usually made of glass wool or polyurethane foam.
