Goodyear plans to temporarily reduce production at U.S. factories

A foreign news agency reported that a spokesman for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company said that the company’s Gadsden plant in Alabama will cut production for two weeks.

Jackie Brehm Edmondson, communications manager at Goodyear, said that the Gadsden plant will be operating from 1 pm on September 29 to 1 am on October 14 and the scale of production cuts has not yet been determined.

Edmondson said that because of the reduced market demand, Goodyear has adjusted its production of all tire factories in North America to varying degrees. In the second quarter of this year, Goodyear reduced production of 5 million tires globally, and plans to cut production in the same quarter in the third quarter.

According to media reports, Goodyear's Fayetteville plant in North Carolina was shut down for a week in August, while the Danville, Va. plant in Virginia recently announced that it will lay off 50 people.
