Oslo: The purpose of the DNV training simulator is to accurately show the hidden dangers of thousands of ships. Special training programs for surveyors, crew and technical managers can now be installed on laptops. DNV will demonstrate the potential of Sesam SurveySimulator in the 2013 Fire Safety Awareness Campaign.
The Sesam SurveySimulator program uses simulation technology to fully display tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and mobile offshore platforms, including nacelles, cargo holds and decks, through high-quality images and realistic sound effects. People can “face†on simulated ships and examine and discuss specific features, such as real-time depiction of coating aging and many other details.
Dariusz Dabrowski, manager of DNV's development tool, explained: “Video tutorials and preset learning scenarios can be used as a step-by-step inspection training to train surveyors, technical managers and crew on how to accept class inspections or port state inspections.†The system is currently available as part of the DNV training package or can be incorporated into the company's internal training.
“The tools included in the system provide the flexibility to create a variety of training programs that meet the company's specific goals and are suitable for on-the-spot personnel and crew training,†Mr. Dabrowski said. “This has a positive impact on cost savings and accident avoidance.â€
In support of the 2013 Fire Awareness Initiative, DNV will showcase the role of the Sesam SurveySimulator simulator throughout the year. Ms. Tuva Flagstad-Andersen, Director of the DNV Machines and Systems Division, said: “The data shows that the majority of fires are caused by oil leaking from the cabin to the hot surface, and the most common retention factor in port state control is firefighting.
