If the clearance is too large, the braking delay time will increase, the braking distance will increase, and the safety of the vehicle will decrease. If the clearance is too small, the brake will not be fully relieved and the running resistance will increase, which will accelerate the wear of the brake drum and the shoe.

The adjustment method is as follows:

Push up the wheel and make sure that the hub is not shaken. Remove the dust plug from the adjusting hole and check the quality of the shoe. If it wears to the step where the limit mark is used, replace the shoe.

When checking the gap between the wheel brake shoe and the brake drum, the brake pedal should be stepped to the end. The distance between the outer edge of the brake pedal and the front fender of the cab should be not less than the specified value. If it is less than the specified value, the brake linings wear out. As the gap increases, adjustments should be made.

When adjusting, insert a screwdriver through the adjustment hole and move the adjustment gear in the direction of the arrow until the wheel cannot rotate. Depress the brake pedal several times to reconfirm that the wheel cannot be turned, and reverse the 4 to 5 teeth (if the wheel can still move). At this time, insert a plug gauge with an appropriate thickness into the brake drum. When pulling out the plug gauge, feel that there is a certain resistance. If it is not required, adjust gears by adjusting the gears. Use the same method to adjust the gap of the other side shoe.

Turn the wheel by hand. The wheel should be capable of smooth rotation without any stagnation.
