ZF plans to sell body control system unit business for 1 billion US dollars

It is reported that ZF is preparing to sell its body control system unit business for US$1 billion. After ZF's $13.5 billion acquisition of TRW, ZF, Germany’s third-largest auto parts maker, will continue to sell other non-core parts of the company’s business.

ZF's body control system unit provides instructions for the electrical components of the vehicle and controls such as switches, air conditioning systems, display screens, central electrical integrated panels and steering column systems.

It is reported that the annual profit before tax depreciation and amortization of the body control unit business is approximately 120 million U.S. dollars, and potential buyers are likely to buy it at an eight-fold valuation of 1 billion U.S. dollars. ZF officials declined to comment on this.

In 2015, ZF bought Tianhe with a price of 13.5 billion U.S. dollars, but the funds supporting the acquisition were ZF’s debts, which currently total as high as 19 billion euros.

After divesting smaller business units such as engineering fasteners and components, ZF’s annual sales this year are estimated to be approximately 35 billion euros (US$39 billion). ZF’s engineering fasteners and components business was sold to Illinois Tool Company earlier this year for US$450 million.

At the same time, ZF continued its acquisition road and earlier this year raised a 515 million acquisition offer for Swedish Jude Company.
