Ma Yanwei team in 2008 in the international development of the first iron-based superconducting wire, followed by the phase of the iron-based superconducting materials physical chemistry, elemental doping, wire and sheet metal, heat treatment process, microstructure and other aspects of in-depth study, Mastered a set of key technologies for the preparation of high performance iron-based superconducting tapes by the powder coating method at a lower cost and maintained the international advanced level in the current-carrying performance of the iron-based superconducting tapes. In 2010, they pioneered the first sintering process of iron-based superconducting precursor powders, laying a solid foundation for significantly improving the current carrying capacity of the wire rod. In 2013, the first high performance iron-based superconducting multi-core wire was successfully prepared in China. In 2014, The first international 10-meter-long high-performance iron-based superconducting wire, out of the wire the first step in the preparation of large-scale.

On this basis, the team further explored the scale of iron-based superconducting wire preparation process, through the structural design of the superconducting wire and processing technology optimization test, successfully solved the iron-based superconducting wire in the preparation of the uniformity , Stability and repeatability and other technical difficulties, the final preparation of a length of 115 meters long iron-based superconducting wire. Its current-carrying performance has been tested to demonstrate good uniformity and weak field attenuation characteristics with critical current densities exceeding 12,000 Amps per square centimeter at a magnetic field of 10 Tesla. Experts point out that this major breakthrough shows that our country has taken the lead in mastering an iron-based superconducting long-line preparation technology with independent intellectual property rights, laying the foundation for the application of iron-based superconducting materials in many fields such as industry, medicine and national defense.
