After the light truck era segmentation market has become increasingly obvious
In early June, Nanjing witnessed the launch of two new light trucks from Beiqi Foton Aoling and Dongfeng Jinba. This move signals a clear shift in the market, with manufacturers focusing on logistics solutions that can carry up to 5 tons. As the era of traditional light trucks evolves, a more defined market segmentation is becoming apparent.
Aoling takes a bold step into the "high speed and heavy load" segment. On June 5th, coinciding with the first anniversary of the Olympic Bell MRT listing, two new models—Kuanao Ling and Daoao Ling—were introduced in Nanjing. Their strikingly wide and spacious designs immediately captured the attention of dealers and customers alike.
So far, over 100 units have been pre-ordered, with plans for the models to be launched in cities such as Shenzhen, Qingdao, and Shenyang. In just half an hour after their unveiling, five units were already sold. The 3T model features an ultra-wide body of 1995 mm, paired with a 2050 mm cargo box, allowing it to transport items as wide as 2 meters. The 4T version, the Olympian, pushes the limits even further with a 4700 mm wheelbase and the same ultra-wide body, making it significantly larger than most standard light trucks.
Industry experts believe that these two models represent another step forward in Aoling’s "high speed and heavy load" strategy.
Meanwhile, Dongfeng Jinba is targeting the 2-ton market segment. On June 10, a joint promotional event was held by Dongfeng Jinba and Chaochai Power in Jiangsu Baotielong. The event was organized by Dongfeng Yulon Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. in cities including Nanjing, Wuhan, and Jinan.
The Dongfeng Jinba, a 2-ton light truck, was first launched in June 2005. It features a new medium-wide cab measuring 1880 mm, a more durable chassis, and 7.00 tires designed for heavier loads. During an interview, a Dongfeng representative stated: “Our goal is to dominate the 2-ton light truck market.†This clearly shows the brand's focus on meeting the growing demand for efficient and powerful logistics vehicles.
